THE
BLADENSBURG
COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE
TEAM (CERT)
Major disasters stretch the resources of any town, city or
county. In an emergency, first
responders may be unable to respond immediately. Consequently, individuals and their communities need to be
prepared to assist each other, especially during the critical first hours of
any emergency or disaster. CERTs act as
a resource to the professionals.
The Prince Georges County Office of Emergency Management
along with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute coordinates and provides
training of CERT volunteers. These two
agencies also conduct emergency disaster drills to enhance the readiness of
CERT teams throughout Prince George’s County to respond in the event of an
emergency and/or a disaster. The
Bladensburg CERT Team is a group of trained volunteers that may be called upon
to respond to an emergency or a disaster or to the imminent threat of an
emergency or a disaster within the National Capital Region (MD, DC and
VA). CERT Teams often volunteer to take
part in community service projects. In
the Town of Bladensburg, the CERT Team serves under the direction of Chief
Moss.
Specifically, the Bladensburg CERT Team is made up of
volunteers who have seen a need and have decided to volunteer their time to
help themselves and their neighbors.
They come from every segment of our society – they are young and old,
they represent the colors of the rainbow, they are workers and retirees, and
they all have in common the desire to help their neighbors.

CERTs in general, or if you would like information about how to become a member
